We’re sure Christmas was delightful, but we’re all too aware of how frightful January and February can be. Nobody wants to deal with the dark evenings and cold weather, so we’ve found the best winter sun family holidays.
From European breaks to far-flung destinations, we’ve got you and the brood covered. Here are the best family holidays to add some sunshine to your winter.
LANZAROTE

Lanzarote is part of the Canary Islands and is often overlooked by tourists due to the popularity of Tenerife. However, we love Lanzarote for its family-focused activities and stunning rocky scenery. With plenty of beaches, bars, restaurants, and attractions, the small island offers something for everyone.
Take the kids to The Pirate Museum, or treat them to a day at the Rancho Texas Theme Park. The Tenguise Sunday market ( featured image above) has something for all the family, with exciting food, shopping and live music. With a flight time of four hours from London, Lanzarote could give your family the much-needed break you deserve.

MALDIVES

Fancy hopping onto a plane and travelling to an exotic destination? Well, it doesn’t get much better than a holiday to the breathtaking Maldives. While many think of the Maldives as a honeymoon destination, there are plenty of resorts that cater to children, and kids’ clubs are ideal for parents that want to relax and unwind.
With a flight time of just over 10 hours, it’s not an easy trip; but the white sandy beaches and crystal sea make up for that small inconvenience.

MADEIRA

Forget about heading to The Algarve and take in the sites of Madeira instead. This small Portuguese Island offers charm, scenery and wonderful natives to make your stay special. Madeira is famous for its rolling hills and there are plenty of excellent tours that let you see all the island.
Take a walk through the São Vicente Caves, and explore the core of Madeira, or treat the kids to a day at the Aquarium which houses 90 species of sea animals. Madeira is an Island of many treasures, which is why so many people return each year. Better still, it’s less than four hours away from London.

Barbados

Ahh, Barbados. Sandy beaches, fabulous cocktails and some of the most welcoming locals you’ll ever meet. This Caribbean Island offers so much for families, and it’s perfect if you want to get rid of your winter blues. Hurricane season ends in November, so January or February is the ideal time to travel.
There are plenty of things to do in Barbados, but most resorts have kids clubs and plenty of activities to keep your brood busy while you sip on a Pina Colada. The flight is just under nine hours, and you can choose an all-inclusive package to save on the cost of food and drink.

Dubai

If you want to indulge in some luxury, then there’s nowhere like Dubai. Frequented often by the rich and famous, the city takes extravagance to a whole new level. If you enjoy shopping, head to the Dubai Mall and its extensive collection of designer labels (well, it doesn’t hurt to look, right?). However, Dubai isn’t all about shopping and fine dining; there’s lots more on offer.
Families will enjoy a trip to the Underwater Zoo and Aquarium, which houses 33,000 species of animals. Thrill-seekers can go on a desert safari or enjoy a day at IMG Worlds of Adventure theme park.
